More information

For applicants sitting one exam. Pick Sofia or Plovdiv: our practice covers that school's biology and chemistry, multiple choice, not the English part.

Medicine, Dental Medicine and Pharmacy: the exam has three parts, English, Biology and Chemistry. All three are required, and failing one part fails the exam. The exam is online. The results of the written work are final and are not re-marked. For the exam paper that foreign students take, the number of questions, the time and the question types are not published.

Scoring: Biology and Chemistry count three times, English once. Each part gets a mark on the Bulgarian scale from 2 to 6. The maximum score is 42. Failing any part fails the whole exam.

Biology and Chemistry tests, online, on one day, in English. Biology comes first, then Chemistry: 45 minutes each, 90 minutes in total. Biology has six task types, and only the first is multiple choice. The others are true statements, matching, labelling a diagram, a comparison table and fixing wrong words in a text. Chemistry has 30 questions with four options and one correct answer. Each test gets a mark from 2.00 to 6.00, and 3.00 is the pass mark. Without an accepted English certificate, you also take a 45-minute English test worth 40 points. You may not use paper, a pen, a calculator or a periodic table. Your camera and microphone stay on, and the whole session is recorded. A lost connection cancels the exam, and the fee is not refunded.

Scoring: Biology and Chemistry marks count three times, the English mark once. The maximum score is 42.00 and the minimum is 21.00. A missing mark, or any mark below 3.00, takes you out of the ranking. If you skip the English test with a certificate, the guide does not say what English mark you get: ask the university. Applicants are ranked by score, in the order of the programmes they chose. If several applicants have the same score at the cut-off, all of them are admitted.

  • The English part of either exam: our practice is biology and chemistry only.
  • Plovdiv's written biology task types: our practice is multiple choice only.
  • Sofia's own paper: its question types are not published, so open questions or worked problems, if it has them, are not simulated.

Chemistry · electrolytes and pH

Our sample

What is the pH of a hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution of 0.01 mol/L?

Tap an answer to see the explanation.

Show the answer

The answer is B: 2.

  • A) Wrong. pH 1 needs 0.1 mol/L of hydrogen ions. This solution is ten times more dilute.
  • B) Right. HCl is a strong acid, so all of it splits into ions. That gives 0.01 mol/L of hydrogen ions, which is 10⁻² mol/L. So the pH is 2.
  • C) Wrong. pH 7 is neutral, like pure water at 25 °C. An acid solution has a pH below 7.
  • D) Wrong. pH 12 is a basic solution, such as 0.01 mol/L of sodium hydroxide.

Electrolytes and pH are on Plovdiv's chemistry topic list.

pH = -log[H+]. Dilute a strong acid ten times, and its pH goes up by 1. You need no calculator for this.

Written by BulgariaMedPrep, multiple choice with one correct option. Not a real exam question. Sofia has not published its question types.

Questions

Before you buy One School Prep

Which school should I choose?

Choose by the exam you can sit: compare the two schools side by side. You can also apply to both: see Both Schools Prep. Read the Sofia guide and the Plovdiv guide.

Does it train Plovdiv's written biology tasks?

No. Our practice is multiple choice, so it covers the topics those tasks test, not their formats. For the formats, use Plovdiv's free sample test and the drills in our past papers guide.

Can I switch schools, or move up to both schools, later?

Neither is a set policy. So pick your plan once you know your schools. Not sure? Write to contact@bulgariamedprep.com before you buy.

Is your practice just the university samples again?

No. Every question is our own. We never copy the universities' papers, and we link their free samples first. Our practice adds an explanation for every answer and a list of the topics where you lose points.

How do I get access after I pay?

When practice opens, you sign in at app.bulgariamedprep.com with the email you used at checkout. We send a one-time code to it, so there is no password. Practice runs in a web browser. Each account is for one student.

Can a parent pay?

Yes. At checkout, enter the email the student will use. The receipt goes to that email, and the student signs in with it. Need an invoice in a parent's name? Write to contact@bulgariamedprep.com before you pay.
