Plovdiv Exam Questions: What Each Task Asks

Drawing of Plovdiv's six biology task types: multiple choice, true statements, matching, labelling a diagram, a comparison table and fixing wrong words. Only the first is multiple choice

In short. Plovdiv's exam is two tests, online, on one day: biology first, then chemistry, 45 minutes each.

  • Biology has six task types, and only the first is multiple choice.
  • Chemistry is 30 multiple-choice questions, with four options and one right answer.
  • Your score is 3 × biology + 3 × chemistry + English, out of 42. Below 3.00 in any test, you cannot be ranked.
  • These are the 2026/27 rules. The 2027/28 guide is not published yet.

This page covers the Medical University of Plovdiv. Medicine, dentistry and pharmacy all sit the same tests. Medical University Sofia sets a different exam: see our Sofia guide.

Is the Plovdiv exam all multiple choice?

No. Chemistry is all multiple choice. Biology is not. Its first task is 20 multiple-choice questions. The other five tasks ask you to judge statements, match, label, fill in a table and fix a text.

Plovdiv's Admission Guide shows an example biology paper worth 60 points. Tasks 2 to 6 give 40 of those points (10 + 6 + 6 + 8 + 10). So two-thirds of the example paper is not classic multiple choice.

The six biology task types

Plovdiv biology in the 2026 example paper, 60 points. Task 1: 20 multiple-choice questions, 20 points. Task 2: 10 true statements out of 20 (10 points). Task 3: matching 6 terms (6). Task 4: labelling a diagram (6). Task 5: a comparison table (8). Task 6: fixing wrong words in a text (10). Topics 1 to 33 cover the human body, 34 to 51 cells and molecules. 45 minutes, pass mark 3.00. Our practice is multiple choice, in the style of task 1 only. Practise tasks 2 to 6 with Plovdiv's free sample test.

Here is what Plovdiv's own instructions say each task asks. The points are from the guide's example paper.

Task 1: multiple choice (20 points)

Twenty questions. Each has one correct answer. This is the only biology task in the classic multiple-choice style.

Task 2: find the true statements (10 points)

You get 20 statements. Ten of them are correct. You pick out the 10 correct ones.

Task 3: matching (6 points)

You match 6 terms to their definitions. You need to know exactly what each term means, not just roughly.

Task 4: label a diagram (6 points)

You label a diagram, then answer questions about it. Plovdiv says the diagram comes from anatomy, molecular biology or cell biology.

Task 5: complete a comparison table (8 points)

You fill in a table that compares two things. Plovdiv says they are two processes, two molecules or two structures.

Task 6: fix the wrong words in a text (10 points)

You read a short text. Some of its words are wrong. You find them, replace them with the right words, and answer questions on the text.

How many wrong words? Plovdiv's instructions and its example paper give different numbers. So do not count on a set number: check every sentence.

Typing your answers

You may not use paper or a pen. The rules let you use the keyboard only to answer a biology question that asks you to insert information. So some biology answers are typed. Plovdiv does not say which tasks. Practise typing short answers, not only clicking options.

Where to see real examples

Plovdiv publishes its own examples, free. Start with them:

We link to them and never copy them. We did not write our own examples either: Plovdiv's are the ones that count. Plovdiv says its real biology test is "similar but not identical" to the sample tests. So learn the topics, not the sample answers.

Our past papers guide lists every free file and shows how to use them without memorising them.

How to practise tasks 2 to 6

These are methods, not questions. Use them with Plovdiv's topic checklist, one topic at a time:

  • True statements (task 2): after each topic, write five true sentences and five false ones. Swap them with a friend and sort each other's.
  • Matching (task 3): make cards with a term on one side and its meaning on the other. Test both ways round.
  • Diagrams (task 4): draw the structures in your school book from memory, then label every part. Do anatomy, molecules and cells.
  • Tables (task 5): compare pairs that sit next to each other on Plovdiv's topic list, such as mitosis and meiosis (topics 49 and 50). Use the same rows each time: what, where, when, result.
  • Wrong words (task 6): take a paragraph from your textbook. Change a few words, wait a day, then find and fix them. Then type the fixes.

Time yourself. The whole biology test is 45 minutes, for all six tasks.

The chemistry test

Chemistry is simpler to describe:

  • 30 questions
  • four options each, A to D, and one correct answer
  • 1 point for each question
  • 45 minutes, so about 1.5 minutes a question (our arithmetic)

You may not use a periodic table, a calculator, paper or a pen. Plovdiv's chemistry guidelines say you do not need a periodic table. So do any working in your head.

The 18 chemistry topics are general chemistry (topics 1 to 7), inorganic (8 to 10) and organic (11 to 18). They are all on our topic checklist.

The English test (only without a certificate)

You take it only if you have no accepted certificate or other proof of your English. It is 45 minutes, on the same day, and worth 40 points:

PartQuestionsOptionsTime
Reading1 to 10: gaps in a text3, one correct15 minutes
Use of English11 to 40: a missing word or phrase in a sentence4, one correct30 minutes

The reading texts come from medicine, health care, biology, chemistry and similar fields. Plovdiv publishes a free English sample test.

Plovdiv's Admission Guide, which sets the rules, asks for English at B1 level. One line in its FAQ says a certificate should be B2 or higher. If your certificate is below B2, check with Plovdiv before you rely on it.

How the questions become your score

Each test gets a mark from 2.00 to 6.00. Your score is:

  • your biology mark × 3: up to 18 points
  • your chemistry mark × 3: up to 18 points
  • your English mark × 1: up to 6 points

The top score is 42.00. A missing mark, or any mark below 3.00, takes you out of the ranking. So the lowest score that can be ranked is 21.00.

Plovdiv does not publish how raw points become a mark. So nobody outside Plovdiv can tell you what 50 of 60 in biology, or 27 of 30 in chemistry, is worth. With a certificate, you skip the English test, and the guide does not say which English mark you then get. Ask Plovdiv.

Biology and chemistry carry 36 of the 42 points. Inside biology, tasks 2 to 6 carried two-thirds of the example paper. So the written tasks deserve real practice time. Our score guide works through examples, and shows the lowest scores admitted in 2026.

Exam day, in brief

  • Biology comes first, then chemistry 45 minutes later: 90 minutes in all.
  • Each test locks when its time runs out.
  • After you press SUBMIT ALL AND FINISH, you cannot go back.
  • Your camera and microphone stay on, and the whole session is recorded.
  • No paper, pen, calculator or periodic table.
  • A lost connection cancels the exam, and the fee is not refunded.

Every date, fee and document rule is in our free Plovdiv guide.

What our practice covers

Our practice is multiple choice: our own questions on all 51 biology and 18 chemistry topics, with an explanation for every answer. That is the style of biology task 1 and of the chemistry test. It does not simulate tasks 2 to 6, and it does not cover English. For tasks 2 to 6, use Plovdiv's own example paper and the drills above. See the plans, and when practice access opens.
